Back to the Future?

It was only fitting that The Shark blew another final round Majors lead Sunday in vintage form, because we had another blast from the past at the Roger Williams Park and Zoo today. For those unaware, Roger Williams was the first to flee the religious persecution of the hypocritical Puritans and settled the new State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. He loved the local Native Americans and apparently animals too because they made a pretty nice zoo for him. They've changed things up a bit in the last couple decades, but it's still full of stereotypical Rhode Islanders and their little brat kids. And true to form - it is always the hottest, muggiest day of the summer at the R-dub so that half the critters hide away, and those that do brave it out look a little more than parched. Fortunately they've installed misters all over the place for us non-caged primates to cool down and liven things up a bit. We met up with Gramma Schomp and Aunt Marian who were watching Elsie and Charlie for the day, so Evelyn got to see her first zebras, giraffes, flamingos and gibbons with her Schomp cousins! Good times!
In other news - no we haven't banished the cats yet - Evie is eating Kix! She doesn't have the thumb/fore-finger coordination down yet, but she grabs them and they get lost in her fat little fist, so she can't easily transfer them to the mouth. But when she does it's a thing of beauty. Even though she's got her two front-bottom teeth, she just uses her tongue quite adeptly to mash them into her gums. Kid tested, Evelyn approved. And I also fed her mashed peaches for the first time on Saturday succesfully - so of course I had to sing the President's Millions of Peaches song to her - which boggled my mind later in the day when we got to Jess' party up in NH and the actual song was playing when we entered the Barn. Oh yeah, Evelyn rode a pony there even though we don't even let her ride the rocking horse in her room. Go figure..
