Well I guess it'd be 1-800-MA-CHILD now, but I like the ring of that old Rhody abuse hotline better - Margot's got it on speed-dial. This latest 'bad-dad' episode took place at Chloe's 2nd BDay party on a bright & blustery Lexington Saturday - It was nice for Evelyn to pal around with some other little folk after being sequestered down in lonely PA for the week.
The girls had a nice time though - the hotel/resort/ski lodge I typically stay at was pretty well accommodated with a nice little kitchenette and plenty to keep busy - it felt like the Shining toward the beginning of the week, but livened up with a convention and wedding over the next few days. Evelyn even finally got acclimated to the indoor and outdoor pools after a summer of reluctance - we got ourselves a little Water Baby. And she got plenty of practice dining out too - although she's learned a new trick of waving and would friendily engage all the other patrons with her big smile! Cute - for a while. Until it wasn't.
And although they didn't actually do any butter churning (or bowling) in Amish country (Mennonite actually - wannabe's if you ask me) - they did manage to make it out into the quaint, hilly autumn valley scenery with the old Pennsylvania Dutch (which is German) buggies and bikes and eat some Shoe-Fly Pie.
Overall though with sleeping in unfamiliar territory and spending so much time on the road in the car, it was a successful mini-trip. Evelyn was a superb little baby girl - couldn't have asked for better!
