But before we get ahead of ourselves, we have to wrap up the glorious weekend and fleeting summer with one last backyard cookout at Piet and Cory's this afternoon. Evie's excited that she'll be able to show off all her new skills to her cousins - like grinding her teeth together that drives her parents bonkers! And we're pretty sure that today is gonna be the breakthrough legitimate crawling day. No more of this bogus Army crawl - but straight-up hands and knees, but-up-in-the-air Crawling. She's been on the verge for a while now just sitting and bouncing back and forth coiled up and ready to pounce - she's just needed an audience to officially break it out - mark it down as Labor Day! (and put away all those white pants now)
As such we've had to kick the baby-proofing up a notch. You turn your head and Evelyn has zipped off chasing Pootie (yes, nobody has claimed the cats yet) and getting into all sorts of trouble. So we're clearing the liquor off the bottom shelves, putting latches on doors and brackets on cabinets, but it begs the question - would Darwin have pulled a bookcase down on himself? Ah well - lock it down for good measure and I guess I'll do something about the lead baseboard paint chips while we're at it..
